Rocchette’s Castle is a wonderful 14th-century manor, midway between Todi and Montefalco. It stands on the top of a bare hill, surrounded by three streams, beyond which rise higher hills, covered with oak woods land. The place is unique, with an atmosphere full of suggestions. The historian Mancini, in his book “Todi e i suoi Castelli” – Todi and its castles, describes it as “ … a castle, so picturesque that it seems to have been removed from a storybook”. It is an important Manor that, over the centuries, has been owned by historic and powerful families.
The Castle has undergone a full restoration, under the supervision of the Italian Ministry for Cultural Heritage. The restoration of the exterior walls, the foundations, the roof, and the wooden parts have been already completed. The master apartment has been also fully restored.
The castle, with a total of 1.300 sqm (about 14.000 sqft) is made of four separate buildings: a stately home, the watchtower, the center building with a chapel, and a 19th-century building.
The stately home is fully restored and has two floors. The hall leading to the first floor has a double-height with a gallery, a historical bas-relief, and a frescoed ceiling’s painted in 1769. On the first floor, there is a large kitchen, enjoying a nice panorama, with a wooden ceiling and a fireplace. On the same floor, there is a beautiful living room with arrow slits and a stately salon with a fireplace. On the first floor, there is also a study, a hallway, and a bathroom.
On the second floor, there are four beautiful rooms: one with trusses and sightings seats, one with a mezzanine and access to the upper floor, one with ensuite bathroom and ceiling with terracotta flat tiles, and the last room has a view on three sides.
The sandstone watchtower has pointed windows and dove holes. The restoration project involves development on six levels and, on the top, brick corbels.
The center building is on three floors, with stone walls, floors in stone slabs, and wooden beams with flat tiles. On the ground floor, there are several rooms originally used for storage and stalls, that are meant to be converted into a restaurant. On the first and second floors, there are a total of six apartments to be used for tourist rental…
The 19th-century building is a beautiful residence, attached to the tower, and overviews the castle’s internal yard and the surrounding countryside.
There is a large fully fenced external yard that surrounds the Castle on three sides and a courtyard that leads to the buildings. In addition, there is land for a total of 7ha (17,3 acres), out of which 5ha are on long terms concession and 2 belong to the property.
On the internal yard, there is the church of Santa Maria dell’Immacolata Concezione (Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception) that features 16th-century frescoes.
