Splendid historic mill dating back to 1400. Perhaps the oldest mill in Umbria and certainly the most important one. It is located in Morcella, a charming medieval hamlet dating back to 900 BC. It is composed of a splendid fifteenth-century tower and other structures arranged in a square around the huge central courtyard.
The fortified tower is the main building. The impressiveness and conformation of the building and various constructive elements such as the loopholes and some means of defense above the access doors testify its dual role: as a mill and oversight function of the territory.
Features
It consists of five floors.
- The basement houses the mill with its four original millstones.
- Original vaulted ceilings characterize the first level that was used as a grain warehouse.
- The second and third ones are intended for residential use.
- The property attics are located on the fourth floor.
Outside
Various buildings arranged around the internal courtyard complete the structure. All of them are the result of historical-architectural and functional overlaps that contribute to the actual, suggestive configuration of the site.
The outdoor courtyard that laps the loop of the Nestore River and 4.5 hectares of agricultural land are part of the property.
Usage and destinations
A unique place full of history. A multifaceted structure that lends itself to different uses such as living space or cultural tourism service and that waits to be properly restored and fully valued.
